DO YOU WANT TO BE BLESSED?

This is so amazing! Jesus was speaking to a diverse group of people, which was registered in Matthew 5. He was identifying what being blessed truly looks like, what is real blessing. We must go into the context of the story. Wherever there was Jesus, there was a crowd from all over (Matthew 4:25)!  Do you realize that all these people came to be blessed by Jesus, to see miracles, and to hear His words? A multitude gathered because He was there. This moment, I would say, was the most epic time of His ministry!

He started saying, “Blessed are those…” Those who? Who are those who are blessed? Only when we are doing what God told us to do – as obeying a calling or obeying His Word – then we are blessed! People ask me, "Bless me because I am doing this and that…" We can’t do that. I can say, “I bless you”, but these are just empty words because only if those we are “blessing” are living and doing what God told them, then they are already blessed, for real! A man can’t bless what and who God is not blessing. Do you want to be blessed? Jesus showed us what being blessed really looks like. Just as no man can curse you if God has already blessed you, no man can bless you if God has not blessed you! So, saying, “God bless you,” is just a prayer, a saying, and a tradition, even an automatic Christian cultural thing we do because no man can guarantee the blessings that come only from God. I can come and be used as a vessel to bless you, but blessings from God are ordained from His Kingdom.

The Bible in Matthew 5 tells us what we must do to be blessed. You must do something that is already done in the Spirit to see the blessings being manifested! Let’s pay attention to the phrase: “Blessed are those who…” because right after that, Jesus showed what blessed people look like and what they do. Let’s look. "Blessed are those who..." Let’s read Matthew 5.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (verse 3) He did not say, blessed are the poor people because I am here to bless them.  If you are not blessed, you will be living in a cursed world, living as a cursed person, and eating its fruits! But He is the greater teacher! Let’s learn from the Master!

What He is saying is: “Blessed are you when you know you are broken, dead, naked, and that you can’t live without Him. When you see He is all you need, even if you have the whole world. You can’t even be a good husband or wife or have a good business; there is nothing you can do without Him!” When you grasp that, you are blessed! Why are you expecting a man to bless you? Why are you not asking the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit to bless you? But even if you ask, they can’t do it because you are not yet poor in Spirit! That is why there is no peace, no joy, and no righteousness. All of these are only for those who are poor in the Spirit! All the other commandments He will utter in this chapter.

"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." (verse 4) He is not talking about people who use their emotions to control people, babies who use emotion to manipulate and get something. They are not mourning because they are repenting! But they are crying because their bills are not being paid. They are crying because they are not having their way and not because of righteousness! They are pouting like babies! It is not about the crying and the tears like Esau because there was no repentance (Hebrews 12:17)! Jesus was talking about inward yearnings, the groaning of the heart, and the crying out because you cannot stand your sin or your character flaws.

Mourning is a gift from God! Out of it comes healing when you are mourning! You are feeling things in the Body of Christ and in the world. You are seeing things in the spiritual realm! This is the type of mourning that He is speaking of. He also gave us this feeling so we can be healed. We cannot make things an idol or make our whole world revolve around ourselves or around a trauma of our past, or around losing loved ones. Mourning has nothing to do with remorse and grief! That is why Joab – the military commander of David’s army, rebuked David (2 Samuel 19:5-8)… “Enough! Stop crying now!” Then Joab gave David a space of time. But enough was enough! The mourning from God, a godly mourning, brings happiness after we are comforted! The Kingdom is here! It’s not about what you do, whether right or wrong. It is more about you wanting, desiring, and yearning to see righteousness. Then, Jesus says…

"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth." (verse 5) What do you want? You will only get it if you seek meekness! You shall inherit it, but the proud shall not inherit anything!

If you are not getting it, there is pride in your life! Some people feel pride in them, and they detest it, but other prideful people get humbled by a message, for example, or by counsel, but that meekness is not part of them! It does not last! This is one of the most powerful attributes of God. To be meek does not mean to be weak. It is not letting everyone do whatever they want to them. It is the essence of Christ!

You don’t have to ask God to bless you. If you must ask God to bless you, something is lacking in your understanding! Let’s say it again. Jesus said, “Blessed are those…”, so it is automatic for those who do what He says.  He does not say you will be blessed in the future! You are already blessed! I am not talking about material things, money, people, or places! I am talking about peace, joy, happiness, and freedom! Then, after you receive these blessings of the Lord, and you start receiving any form of prosperity in the world, these are blessings and never a burden.

"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." (verse 6) Why are you getting mad at your brothers and sisters because they are more blessed than you? Because they are hungry and thirsty after righteousness, but you are not! They are not hungry only on Sunday, “Pastor, fill my cup,” they ask, but this hunger and thirst must be who you are on a daily basis! Those who are hungry and thirsty don’t need the Word crushing them because they are already overflowing with the blessings! Their bellies are full, and all the other things will manifest automatically! This is why He said, repent, the kingdom of heaven is right here, People (Matthew 3:2)! Lean on His Word; take over it! You think you can get anything outside of Him, but you are fooling yourself!

No man can come to the Father (John 6:44), to the blessings, but through Him, which is His Word! "You cannot fight Me and resist Me and still be blessed," says God! “When I come back, am I going to find you naked or clothed with My blessings!" Are you still fighting for yourself? Fighting to have your way? Or mourning for the condition of your heart? We must be hungry and thirsty to see His righteousness manifested in us!

"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." (verse 7) Someone who is already merciful is not merciful because people did not hurt them or stab them in their back, but it is because of the positioning of the heart in obeying the Word when people trespass against them! Don’t think you can enter the kingdom when you are prideful and have something in your heart! My God! You can’t even cry anymore, and you think you can be blessed? The blessing is automatic if you walk in righteousness! We don’t need to ask, beg, or use manipulation. It is automatic for the doers of His Word! This is Truth. You can throw away so many of man’s sermons about blessings if they don’t tell you that you need to do your part which is to obey His Word so His blessings for you can be manifested!

Who is mercy? His name is Jesus! Who is grace? Who is Truth? Jesus! The mourning stops and the blessing comes because you showed mercy! People go to people who have already obtained the blessing so they can obtain theirs. So many think there is some special potion of a formula to be blessed. They just need to align themselves with Matthew 5! The innocent mourn, the proud pout! They whine. Mourn now so you can receive in the morning the joy of the kingdom, which is something that man cannot take from you! It won’t fade away!

Jesus never had to ask the Father to forgive Him! He was asking the Father to forgive them! He was always seeking mercy and giving mercy! Mercy is the blessing! Mercy is power! He was the sermon on the mount. He was hungry, He was thirsty, He mourned, He gave mercy, and He was meek and poor in spirit even though He was so rich. People come and ask for the blessings! Bless my family! But I can’t! Bless my business! I can’t! Your problem is that you consider all yours: MY! My ministry, my life, my marriage, my finances, my this, my that. Give all to Him. When all is His, then all is blessed, automatically! Why are you asking to be blessed? Because only what is HIS is blessed! Only when you give all to Him, the blessings are yours. He cannot deny Himself!

“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (verse 8) This one is simple: You will only see God if you have a pure heart. See God in your circumstances, relationships, tests, marriages… everything!

Any ought or offense in your heart against a brother or sister, any beam in your own eye, any rebellion or iniquity will make you blind to God, to His Spirit, and to His blessings. The real blessing is Him, to see Him, to know Him, and be with Him. His presence. That’s why a pure heart is so important. It’s all about the heart.

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." (verse 9) It does not say they might be called, but they SHALL be called! Children always inherit the inheritance! They know they are not bastards! What is a peacemaker? You know you offend somebody, or when somebody offends you, or two people are offended by one another, but you always try to bring peace back! You don’t feel happy about it. You mourn the situation. You give mercy, and you don’t add a "but” an “if,” or any excuses! You always go for peace! Peacemakers are those who go out of their way to bring people back to the Spirit in the family of God! Those who are disconnected from the Body are brought back together by a peacemaker! A peacemaker cannot be a troublemaker. You cannot be a peacemaker if you are the one who waits until you feel like doing it or until you feel like reconciling yourself back to the Body and to God. Being a peacemaker is not like keeping the peace, no. It is not being a man-pleaser; it is not being non-confrontational. Being a peacemaker is how we live our lives: for the Word and not for self.

"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (verse 10) People don’t like this one: to be persecuted! If you are not being persecuted, it is because you are not a peacemaker but a man-pleaser! A man pleaser tries to keep the peace, but false peace! It is all about you being liked and loved by man! A peacemaker makes peace despite if they must lose their lives! You only get persecuted when you stand; when you bow, you will lose what you gained, but the world will tell you differently. But Jesus did not come to bring this type of peace but persecution that comes with loving Him. They hated Him without a cause. They hate you because you will not agree, bow, or submit to lies and Jezebel.

Blessed are you if you are persecuted because of your self-righteousness because God Himself will persecute you so you can repent and go back to His righteousness! But being persecuted for righteousness’s sake is different! You stand in darkness and speak up among your brothers!

"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake." (verse 11) When you walk into the room, people begin to roll their eyes in the natural and in the spirit because they know the blessed ones have arrived! The blessed ones mourn for those who revile them, and they cry for their own selves! It is not just because of the lies. It is about talking falsely about those who are blessed! You are defending yourself, but that shows you are not blessed! Because when they speak evil of you, you don’t need to defend yourself because you know you are the blessed one!

"Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” (verse 12) They did the same to those who were walking this walk before you even started it!

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." (verse 13) Do you think you are the salt of the Earth without obeying the Word of God? Without doing Matthew 5, do you think the blessings can be manifested? No, you have lost your flavor as salt! You left Matthew 5 long ago! It has nothing to do with what you do but about what you are NOT doing!

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid" (verse 14). Pay attention to verse 19: “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

God calls all that was mentioned in Matthew 5 commandments! At least, forgive your brother; this is the least of all the commandments that you must obey! If you don’t follow all of Matthew 5, it is saying you will forfeit your own blessing! God is not blessing anyone of His children if they are not obeying Him! Disobedience results in a lack of blessings! If you hate disobedience, anger, and pride, if you cry out to be changed instead of asking Him to change everybody else, then the kingdom has been given to you! God did not die for you not to be blessed! But He already has given it to those who do these commandments.

"For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." (verse 20)

See, the scribes and pharisees were filled with self-righteousness! Your righteousness must exceed their self-righteousness! Go and get right before you come to the altar of God! This place – this altar - is not out there! It is you! When you start saying, “My this, my that, my this, my house,” you can’t have the blessing! It is impossible! Matthew 5 does not apply to things that belong to you! But this promise concerns the things that have been given to Him! The bread was already blessed. Jesus just sanctified what was given to Him, but it was already blessed! No man can curse what God has blessed! Only you can curse you with your disobedience! The blessing happened 2000 years ago! If you don’t lay down your life and obey His Word, you will always be hungry and thirsty for things that you want for yourself, for the things that the world wants for you, for your own things, and your own kingdom! If you don’t feel blessed, mourn. If you are not hungry and thirsty, mourn. If you are not meek, mourn. If you are not giving mercy, mourn.

What you did the day before will result in how you wake up the next day. You are jealous, you don’t forgive, it is all about you... Have you ever paid attention to Matthew 5, verse 19?! Read it again! The answer for your joy, peace, and righteousness starts in repentance and finishes in Matthew 5! Don’t try to get to the green pastures, to the blessings God, for example, mentioned in Psalm 23 through your own way. Look at how the Bible refers to us: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” John 10:1

Stop trying to climb to reach the blessing using your own way. You are a thief and a robber if you try to get into His blessing by ignoring His ways and His commandments! You are robbing your own self! If you break one of the least of His commandments, you cannot inherit His kingdom!

“Father, thank you because we are the blessings of the Father! The blessings that are in Your Son! The blessing in Your Son flows down to me! We are living for Your righteousness! For Your own kingdom! Show us anything in us that is stopping Your blessings, your abundance to manifest.”

No longer, "Pray for me… for my everything” … Just mourn, just give mercy, just be hungry, just be thirsty, just be meek, and you will inherit everything that Jesus died for us to have!  Blessed are those who hear His Word and do them because they build their own life on a strong foundation! Nothing can be taken from them! Nothing can be shaken!

“Father, I need your mercy, so I will give mercy! Because mercy is given to those who give mercy! Thank you, Father, because I am not going to be blessed, I am already. If I obey Your law, your commandments, Your Spirit, I am so blessed! I am persecuted! But never forgetting, I am chosen to be blessed!

Amen!
